Quito - Baltra - Galapagos Islands - North Seymour The Quito airport is the gateway to some of the most amazing wildlife on Earth. Depart early this morning for a flight to the Galapagos Islands, and land on Baltra. Meet our other guide who will accompany us to the pier, where we'll board the Petrel. Settle in, then join our guides for a safety briefing and orientation to the adventures that lie ahead. In the afternoon you will experience the marvels of North Seymour Island on an amazing hike through a colony of endemic wildlife. This small geological uplift is home to some of the Galapagos' most fascinating creatures, including swallow-tailed gulls, blue-footed boobies, and magnificent frigatebirds.
Isabela - Punta Vicente Roca - Fernandina - Punta Espinoza Take a trip to Isabela, the largest of the Galapagos Islands, and explore its stunning seahorse-shaped coastline. As you take in the graffiti dating back to the 1800s, be sure to look for the flightless cormorants and Galapagos penguins. Isabela - Elizabeth Bay - Punta Moreno Hop on board our panga for a wildlife-filled ride through Elizabeth Bay! Our knowledgeable guides will take you to explore some of the islets, mangroves, and lagoons in search of turtles, penguins, rays, and more. With our comfortable boats and knowledgeable guides, you're sure to have an unforgettable experience on this Quito tour.
Isabela - Sierra Negra - Puerto Villamil Isabela, the archipelago’s largest island, formed by five volcanoes, is also one of the youngest and a marvelous world within itself. The laid-back island town of Puerto Villamil is our home base for a variety of engaging activity options today. Wander trails through the wetlands located just outside town, composed of lagoons, swamps, and mangroves that are home to a variety of bird species such as common stilts, whimbrels, white-cheeked pintail ducks, gallinules and other shore birds. We may also visit the Giant Tortoise Breeding Center or the Wall of Tears, a penal colony that existed on Isabela between 1945 and 1959. For a more adventurous option, take an excursion to Sierra Negra volcano and peer from the rim into the vast caldera, one of the largest in the world at 4 miles across.
Santa Cruz - Darwin Station - Tortoise Camp When you arrive on the shores of Santa Cruz, it is not just your first glimpse into this beautiful and intriguing archipelago - but also an introduction to what will be a spectacular day filled with activities. First stop: Puerto Ayora (the main town) where we'll visit the world renowned tortoise rearing center at Charles Darwin Research Station which specializes in studying international conservation efforts dedicated to safeguarding unique habitats found only here! The research station is home to an important tortoise breeding program that has helped increase depleted populations in Galapagos National Park. So far, more than 5 thousand hatchlings bred at this facility have been released into the wilds where they belong! They're most commonly seen in camp from July through February. From March to June, we make an excursion to a nearby tortoise reserve for closer views as they migrate seasonally and move down off their mountain homes!
Santa Cruz - Santa Fe This morning, we'll visit a network of subterranean lava tubes and caverns adjacent to Tortoise Camp.Returning Petrel in the afternoon for lunch then sailing on towards Santa Fe...you may happen upon land iguanas that are waiting patiently underneath their favorite fruit!
San Cristobal - Quito - Depart / Overnight This morning, as we make a landing at Isla Lobos to take in all the nature has waiting for us; there are seabirds nesting on these beaches along with marine life like frigatebirds and sea lions. We'll also hope that you see blue-footed or Nazca boobies while out exploring! Travelers who have been on an overnight flight can rest in the hotel's comfortable day room before their departure. A complimentary shuttle will return them to airport just minutes away so that they are ready for take off at night time - transferring from one destination into another (or vice versa) - arriving somewhere new with nothing but your luggage! When travelers arrive at their destination, it is common for them to transfer from an overnight flight into hotel accommodations that are just minutes away. This allows guests the opportunity to make sure they're refreshed and relaxed before nighttime departures!
